I disagree with two points you make. First, I understand all too well what post modernists are trying to do. Second, debate on the validity and direction of trends in art is constructive. I am long tired of the argument that those who are critical of post modernist art must be ignorant of it. Some post modernist inquiry was interesting and valuable; much of it is uninspired claptrap hiding behind obtuse unimaginative "theorizing." One can understand fully the motives of post modernism and still find them now stale, trivial and deadend. Enough with dissecting and "challenging" our "assumptions" of art already.... can we now just attempt to make great art again? I do not consider Marcofabbro the best thing since cheese, I simply laud a talented sculptor brave enough to rely only on the strength of form and formal elements to communicate. If I am angry, it is only for the co-opting of the field of "sculpture" by those wishing only to dismiss or negate the foundation of sculpture. It requires a particularly sophisticated mind to play with form successfully. Those unable to meet the traditional challenges of sculpture have devised a host of clever and not so clever means to hide their inadequacies. I am tired of all of them. How is it we have gone from the elegance and divine complexity of the David to a malformed amatuerish portrait cast in frozen blood as the epitomy of sculpture?
